Cong set for major  overhaul in party

Congress is all set to effect major changes in the organisation after its scheduled Bharat Bachao Rally   on Saturday.

Congress sources said there will be changes right from top to bottom, and no one should be surprised if old faces were assigned the task of guiding the young force. A senior leader said the role of party veterans was noticeable in the party’s  improved performance in Maharashtra and Haryana and this has to considered in the organisational revamp.

"While the interim party chief can be handed over the full baton, there could be working presidents for different  regions. The high command has already reviewed the State units and changes will be done keeping in mind to strengthen the party at grassroots. There is a renewed chorus to  bring in  Rahul Gandhi back as full time chief . In a nutshell, the organisational revamp  will be made to lead the party in the  next Lok Sabha elections ," said a senior party leader.

Sources said the media department will be completely overhauled with a new team of social media to tap on the new generations and strategy to  grab their eye balls.

To make the rally a great success, the party has asked its State units to mobilise "as many workers as possible" for the rally on December 14.

Ahead of the rally, AICC general secretary in-charge of organisation KC Venugopal has communicated to State Units that since the date of the rally is fast approaching the State leaders should mobilise as many workers as possible. "This is only to request you to put maximum efforts. I once again request you to kindly mobilise as many workers as possible and make this rally a grand success," Venugopal stated.

Called "Bharat Bachao rally", it will be end of Congress’ nationwide agitation to highlight economic slump and related issues like unemployment and mal-governance of Modi government like demonetisation and GST.

The major responsibility has again been entrusted to states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Chhatisgarh. "The idea of a rally is to put economic issues before the public discourse who are being carried away only with the idea of nationalism in favour of BJP," said a senior Congress leader.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra  has frequented Uttar Pradesh in recent times to mobilise the party cadres  for the rally. On Monday, Priyanka  attacked the Centre over the issue of price rise, alleging that the BJP government seems to be "in a mood to sleep".

Congress has been attacking the government over the state of the economy, alleging that steps such as demonetisation and GST have hampered growth.
