Cong protests to protect assets of Gandhi family: BJP

Published on:

Alleging that the Congress and corruption were made for each other, the BJP on Monday attacked the Opposition party for taking to the streets as their leader Rahul Gandhi was summoned for questioning by the ED and said the protest was to protect the Gandhi family’s assets of over `2000 crore.

Addressing a press conference, BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani said the show of strength by the Congress is aimed at putting pressure on the probe agency, and asserted that nobody is above the law “even Rahul Gandhi”.

Congress members should also ask Rahul Gandhi about his family’s relations with Dotex Merchandise, which she described as a hawala operator whose transactions have been flagged by the Financial Intelligence Unit.

She alleged that the Gandhi family floated Young Indian to grab the assets worth over Rs 2,000 crore of Associated Journals Limited, which publishes the National Herald newspaper.

Never before such a blatant attempt was made by a political family to hold a probe agency to ransom, she said.

For his part, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi alleged that Congress and corruption are “made for each other”, and claimed that the opposition party was carrying out a “satyagraha for corruption”.

Naqvi said that with the family facing allegations, the Congress was “fabricating agitation”. He said this proves that the Congress and corruption are “made for each other”.

The country has earlier witnessed ‘satyagraha’ against corruption, but the country is witnessing the Congress’ culture of “satyagraha for corruption” for the first time.

The Congress’ attempt to show strength on the streets during investigation into a corruption case shows its brazen attitude despite indulging in graft, Naqvi told reporters.

“The Congress has become a ‘crew of corruption’ and a champion of converting corruption into revolution,” the senior BJP leader said.

Rahul was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering probe linked to the National Herald newspaper after the MP reached the agency’s headquarters here accompanied by a battery of party leaders and supporters.
