Accusing the Congress of playing “hate politics”, the BJP on Thursday lashed out at the party for speaking against ‘Swachchh Bharat’ campaign saying the Opposition party was indulging in “hate politics” at the anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India.
The BJP said the anti-Modi rhetoric of the Congress and the Gandhi family was not enough to rally non-BJP parties together.
As for Rahul Gandhi’s comment that the Modi Government was looking for photo opportunities, the BJP reacted rather sharply saying the Congress vice-president’s “entire political career has been full of photo-ops, which include travelling in a local train and tearing down an Ordinance.”
“Congress is trying to use Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary to play its own politics. On this occasion where they had to take the pledge of uniting the society and spreading brotherhood, they for their political gains have done the work of dividing society. It is the Congress which is playing the politics of hatred and not BJP,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.
Shahnawaz also attacked Rahul for his remarks relating to Hindi saying he has no right to insult Hindi.
He alleged that the Congress was trying to reduce Nehru’s legacy to its confines party and thus reducing his national stature. Hussain said Prime Minister Modi believes in taking everyone along and ensure harmony and progress of the nation.
The BJP spokesman said ousted from power, the Congress was reacting out of “frustration and disappointment”.
Quoting Rahul that he would not like anything which Modi likes, the BJP leader charged he has come down to the extent of being anti-Hindi. “He has every right to promote a language but he has no right to insult a language,” he said.
Another BJP leader Nalin Kohli caught on to Congress leader’s “photo-Op” remarks by saying, “Rahul Gandhi’s entire political career has been full of photo-ops, which include travelling in a local train and tearing down an Ordinance. leaving aside the goodwill of the name he has inherited, what has been his achievementsIJ” Kohli asked.
