Cong plans to corner Govt over economy in Winter Session

Published on:

Congress has drawn up an elaborate plan to corner the Modi Government during the month long Winter Session of Parliament that begins on Monday and has been in talks with other Opposition parties to come on board on raising common issues concerning citizens like economy, employment, NRC etc.  Congress in particular will again raise the demand of JPC in Rafale scam.

The performance of Congress in the just concluded Assembly polls leading to formation of a Government in Maharashtra with its long term ally NCP, has also given hopes to opposition parties to build upon the pressure in cornering the BJP Governments. Congress leaders said that the issue of an Israeli software to snoop on Indian civil society will also rock the Parliament debates and in this regard the leaders of Opposition together have written to President Ramnath Kovind also to take up the matter with the Government.

The Opposition parties, particularly Congress, are now hopeful that the result could be used to build consensus upon electoral understandings, political positioning and policy views.

Senior opposition leaders say that the immediate impact of this can be seen in upcoming winter session of Parliament and elections in Jharkhand slated for later this year.

"Certainly the poll performance will boost greater coordination on the floor of Parliament during winter session. Two key issues which a united opposition is likely to take up in the session include state of economy and situation in J&K.
