A delegation of Gujarat Congress headed by Ahmed Patel submitted a memorandum to Governor OP Kohli at the State Capital Gandhinagar on issues related to land acquisition of agriculture land, especially for Bullet Train project.

Post submission of memorandum, Patel said the Congress would also support the farmer movement to be organised in Palghar in Maharashtra on June 3, 2018 against acquisition of land for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet project of Bullet train.

local political parties in Maharashtra are opposing recent land survey being taken up by the National High Speed Rail Corporation ltd for the Bullet Train project. The Bullet Train project is coming up between Ahmedabad and Mumbai with Japanese collaboration. The Bullet train is slated to travel through Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra en route. This has been opposed by All India Kisan Sabha that has launched an agitation against Bullet train.

In the memorandum submitted to the Governor, Congress alleged that the ruling BJP Government in the S0tate was subverting the Constitution in acquiring agricultural land from farmers as well as not adhering to Courts verdict on maintaining autonomy of Panchayati Raj institutions. The allegations in the Congress memorandum come in wake of Gujarat High Court’s verdict that the members of the Panchayat would not be able to bring about ‘no-confidence’ motion against the Sarpanch for at least one year of the elections.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Chavda, leader of Opposition in Gujarat legislative Assembly Paresh Dhanani and other senior leaders also remained present along with their senior leader Ahmed Patel.

Meanwhile Patel expressed confidence that Congress would emerge victorious in the ensuing Karnataka assembly polls to be held on May 12. According to him out of 225 seats that would go for polling, Congress candidates would win on at least 115 constituencies.
