High drama prevailed in the State Congress headquarters ‘Congress Bhavan’ here on Sunday as enraged supporters of former Minister and sitting MlA Satyanarayan Sharma went on ransacking the party’s office after hearing that the latter’s name had been dropped as the candidate from Raipur lok Sabha seat.
The Congress party’s Central Poll Committee late last night suddenly decided against fielding sitting MlA Satyanarayan Sharma from Raipur lok Sabha seat while going back on its
original choice of fielding Chhaya Verma from the constituency.
As the news spread among Sharma’s supporters broke loose as they reached the party’s office during noon hours and stormed into the office shouting slogans against the State Congress party President Bhupesh Bahgel.
Raipur City Congress president Vikas Upadhyaya made a failed attempt to drive Sharma’s supporters out of Congress Bhavan as they forced their entry into the building.
Immediately after, one of the Congress workers named Sharad Gupta from Aarang reached the party’s headquarters with a can of kerosene and threatened to self-immolate. However, policemen present at the scene snatched the can can from him.
