After almost two months of the biggest ever defeat in lok Sabha elections, the Gujarat Congress has finally putting efforts to make its presence felt in the State and decided to kick-start membership drive from August 9 this year and continue till August 20.
The decision was taken in a executive meeting convened at the party’s headquarters ‘Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan’ in Ahmedabad, said Manish Doshi, spokesman of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). The membership drive is expected to boost morale of the party ahead of the by-election of nine Assembly segments and one lok Sabha seat.
During the meeting the decision was taken to form High Power Committees to implement ‘Ahmedabad Ghoshana Patra’ to focus on Ahmedabad Corporation, district panchayat and other public bodies in and around the city.
“Gujarat Congress will boycott the supplementary books by Dinanath Batra that are made compulsory by the State Government for 42,000 Government primary and secondary schools. Government’s letter in this connection will be set on fire,” GPCC decided in a separate resolution.
Besides, another resolution was also passed to initiate programmes against price hike in all major cities and these protests would be conducted by various District Congress Committees. The GPCC also decided to demand judicial probe against corruption of Gujarat Government and hold dharna against corruption at every district headquarters.
Gujarat Congress has also decided that the State Government should pay relief amount to kin of those who have suffered loss of life or property during recent heavy rain. The Congress will also demand that fodder and cash doles should be given by the State in water scarce area.
