A bunch of Gujarat Congress leaders have trained their guns on Shankersinh Vaghela, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly through a letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president accusing the senior leader of remaining inactive against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The letter has allegedly signed by nearly 60 former and current MlAs, MPs and office-bearers from the State, has created ripples in the political circles of Gujarat as they have written up to the extent that Vaghela was trying to destroy the Congress in Gujarat. They said that the purpose of taking Vaghela had not been served. “He had worked closely with RSS as well as BJP for four decades. Despite the fact, the Congress was receptive enough to take him, but he used party platform for his purpose,” said former secretary of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Jayesh Shah.
Shah who is also one of the signatory in the said letter after merger of Vaghela’s political outfit Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) in the Congress, not only he but his supporters were designated in various position at the cost of ‘real’ Congress workers, but in return party had not gain anything from them. Considering himself as original Congress workers, the signatories opined that leader of Opposition shouldn’t be given lok Sabha ticket as most of the sitting MlAs migrated from the Congress to BJP were Vaghela’s men who joined the party after RJP’s merger.
The said Congress old-timers have also criticised policy makers of the party for ignoring original Congress leaders who elected in the last Assembly and lok Sabha elections from Gujarat despite BJP wave. Meanwhile, Vaghela said that he did not know about any such letter as he had not received copy of any letter against him. On the contrary he blamed BJP and said that it was nothing but conspiracy of the saffron brigade to weaken the Congress party in the state.
