In a bid to ensure passage of the ambitious Food Bill, the Congress has issued a whip to its MPs to be present in lok Sabha on Wednesday. The starting of the debate on the Bill on Tuesday witnessed chaos leading to three adjournments with Food Minister KV Thomas unable to finish even his introductory speech.

The frequent adjournments were caused after Opposition MPs demanded that the House should be in order to debate the Bill. They said the debate was not possible amid slogan shouting by TDP MPs. Though there was a reported move to remove the agitating TDP MPs by calling the marshals but when the House assembled, it did not happen. PC Chacko, who was in the Chair, then announced adjournment for the day.

The Business Advisory Committee had allotted six hours for the debate and according to Government’s floor managers, the Bill is expected to be passed on Wednesday itself.
