The Congress on Monday inducted SN Krishnaiah Setty, former Karnataka Minister and a co-accused with BS Yeddyurappa in a corruption case into the party. According KPCC president G Parameshwara, Krishnaiah Setty’s entry was cleared by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Karnataka in-charge Digvijay Singh.

According to an official Press release, issued by the KPCC media cell, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has approved the proposal to induct former Minister SN Krishnaiah Setty into the party.“AICC general secretary and in-charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh has cleared the proposal to admit Krishnaiah Setty into the party,” the release said.

According to the release, a letter in this regard was sent to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara requesting to induct Krishnaiah into the party. “Digvijay had already discussed Sonia Gandhi’s consent in the matter with the KPCC chief,” the release added.

Earlier, the KPCC has recommended the AICC to allow Setty’s induction into the party ahead of the lS elections.Krishnaiah, accompanied by Union Minister and MP from Kolar KH Muniyappa, met the State Congress chief Parameshwara in Bangalore on Sunday. He also met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Krishnaiah was a Minister in the BS Yeddyurappa Cabinet. The BJP denied ticket to Setty to contest the Assembly election last year in view of corruption cases against him. Enraged over this, Setty contested the election as an Independent. He, however, lost the election.Currently, Setty is facing corruption charges and was sent to judicial custody by the lokayukta court along with former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.

Speaking to The Pioneer, a senior Congress leader expressed his unhappiness over the entry of such a tainted politician when the party has been taking a high moral ground on corruption. He added that “it is sad that even the BJP has denied ticket to him. He was sent to jail along with Yeddyurappa and was involved in a corruption case. What is the moral of the story nowIJ’nowIJ’
