Cong has no answer to its worst show

The Congress may have been holding the record of winning maximum seats (150 seats in 1984) in Gujarat Assembly elections, the oldest political party in the country is passing through worst-ever period.

In the 16th lok Sabha elections, the Congress not only lost all 26 parliamentary constituencies, but more shocking news for the party came in result analysis as the party could maintain leads in only 17 Assembly seats out of 182 constituencies. The data of State Election Commission revealed that the Congress won 61 seats in 2012 Assembly polls, but the State Congress leadership has no answer to the party’s worst show in Gujarat.

In a run-up to 2014 general elections, Gujarat Congress leaders used to taunt Narendra Modi despite BJP winning three consecutive elections in Gujarat under his leadership as he couldn’t cross the BJP’s best performance of 126 seats under Keshubhai Patel in 1998. They used to raise questions on Modi’s popularity, and boast of their party’s performance three decades back. However, Modi virtually broke both records by establishing victory margins on a whopping 165 out of 182 Assembly constituency.

The 17 Assembly segment, which proved to be face saver for Gujarat Congress leadership are — Danta, Khedbrahma, Bhiloda, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Mandavi, Vyara, Nizar, Dani limda, Jamalpur, Khadia, Vank-aner, Jasdan, Borsad, Ankvav, Petlad, Thasara and Balasinor. Despite the spectacular performance, Modi’s hunger for victory is not pacified. He is still strategising to wipe out the Congress completely.
