The Congress on Friday ordered an enquiry into cross-voting in the recent Maharashtra Legislative Council polls and the absence of 11 of its legislators including former chief minister Ashok Chavan during the trust vote moved by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi deputed senior leader and national spokesperson Mohan Prakash to make an enquiry in the recent political developments in the State. "Congress president has deputed Mohan Prakash to Maharashtra, to make an enquiry and submit a report in the wake of the recent political developments in the state, with immediate effect," read the a Press release signed by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal.
This comes after former minister Naseem Khan and Chandrakant Handore, who lost in the MLC polls, met former party chief Rahul Gandhi on Thursday."A senior Congress leader Chandrakant Handore was the party's first candidate who was allocated 29 votes against the quota of 26 votes. However, he got 22 votes which means seven legislators indulged in cross-voting. So we demanded probe and action against the concerned legislators,’’ Khan told a section of media in Mumbai.
Khan’s demand came after former chief minister and member of G-23 Prithviraj Chavan claimed that seven party legislators indulged in cross-voting and party should take action against them. AICC sources said that Prakash has been tasked to prepare a report which includes the fall of the coalition MVA government with Shiv Sena and NCP as other prime partners.
