Cong creating controversy for political interest: Shahnawaz

Hitting out at the Congress, BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain said that at a time when the country was trying to get a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, the Congress was creating controversy over intolerance for political interest.

“What is the definition of intolerance IJ Was it less during PV Narasimha Rao’s regime or during Indira Gandhi rule IJ What was the level of intolerance during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure IJ There is communal peace in this regime but some vested interests want to vitiate this harmony by whipping up controversies,” Hussain told reporters in lucknow on Thursday.

He said that the Congress initially opposed the BJP, then the BJP-led NDA Government and then the country. “The BJP will not tolerate the Congress move of defaming the country. This is the country where Muslims and Hindus live in peace and harmony.   India is the best place for Muslims to live and Hindus are their best neighbours,” he said.

“When major countries have supported India for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council, the Congress started defaming the Union Government and in their bid it ended up defaming the country. The campaign of intolerance has not gone down well with the international media,” he said.

The BJP leader said that before the Bihar elections, there was a spurt in returning awards. Thankfully, with the Bihar polls over, this award vapsi has also come to an end. “This shows how this award vapsi programme was orchestrated,” he said.
