While the Congress and BJP are fighting elsewhere in the country, both the major political parties are all set to form Government together at the Chakma Autonomous Council (CAC) in Mizoram.
The Congress and BJP have joined hands in Mizoram to form the Government in the Chakma Autonomous Council (CAC), election to which delivered a hung result. While the MNF could manage to secure eight of the 19 seats, the Congress and BJP won six and five seats respectively in the April 20 polls to the CAC.
“We have got the Governor’s order on Wednesday for forming the Government at the council. Now we are waiting for a formal order from the Mizoram Government for swearing in ceremony,” said Satyendranath Tripathy, saffron party’s election in charge for the State. He said that swearing in is likely to take place by Friday.
He said that the Congress legislators have formed an alliance titled, United legislature Party (UlP) and they are ready to support the BJP Government from outside.
The development assumes significant considering the fact that the Opposition, MNF is a member of the BJP led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). BJP president Amit Shah had also recently tweeted that the strength of the party is increasing in the Congress ruled State and that BJP and MNF combined has got 13 seats in the Chakma Autonomous Council.
“MNF is a part of the NEDA and we have invited the MNF also to be part of the Government. However, we are yet to get a response from the MNF so far,” said Tripathy adding that the basic objective is to work for welfare of Chakma community.
A senior Congress leader in the Mizoram, however, said that the formation of UlP is individual decision of the members and their decision to support the BJP in the council is the need of the hour to keep the MNF out of power in the council. He, however, said that the there is no question of any alliance with the BJP in the election to the State legislative Assembly scheduled for December this year.
