With exit polls predicting a BJP-led Government in Delhi, the party said the Congress and the Aam Admi Party were contesting for the second spot. BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the BJP was way ahead of its opponents and exuded confidence that next Government in Delhi would be formed by BJP.
“BJP is far ahead in the post-poll scenario. It is the Congress and the AAP who are contesting for the second position. Nobody can make a dent in our vote bank,” Vardhan said. Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel also sounded confident that the BJP would get clear majority. “What happened today was a vote for change. People were fed of the Congress Government and BJP projected itself as a viable alternative,” he added.
Sheila Dikhsit, who is fighting a tough battle to retain power said she would ‘keep her fingers crossed’ even as she refuted any possible impact of AAP on the Congress vote bank. Unfazed by the projection of Congress lagging behind the BJP, she went on to trash the exit polls saying the figures were incorrect. “The exit polls are incorrect. I am hopeful that people will vote for development and the work done by us in the last 15 years,” Dikshit said.
Meanwhile, the third player in the poll-fray, AAP too maintained that the people of Delhi have given their mandate to oust the Congress-led Government which has been ruling for the last 15 years. Its leader Arvind Kejriwal said the poll results would bring to an end the corrupt regime in the State. “People of Delhi have given their mandate. They will win and corruption will be defeated in the election. It will not be my victory but that of the people,” Kejriwal said. The AAP also congratulated the Election Commission for making adequate arrangements to ensure polls in a non-partisan manner.
