There was sporadic violence on Wednesday during the bandh called by the BJP in East Midnapore district following the murder of one of its booth committee presidents BK Bhuniya.
He was abducted and then eliminated by alleged Trinamool Congress goons, Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari had complained before calling a 12-hour bandh at Moyna in East Midnapore. About a dozen people were arrested and some were injured, sources said adding, the bandh evoked a mixed response. “The police aided by the civic volunteers brutally assaulted our men who had taken out processions at various places,” complained Ashok Dinda former India cricketer and saffron MLA even as Adhikari said agitation would continue in East Midnapore against Bhuniya’s murder.
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered postmortem of Bhuniya be conducted at a central government run hospital instead of a State hospital.
While hearing case Justice Rajasekhar Mantha directed that a video-graphed post-mortem be conducted at Army’s Command Hospital at Alipore in South Kolkata.
