Communal and divisive forces have joined hands, says Sonia

Slamming the BJP led anti-Congress alliance in Assam, AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said that the unity and integrity of Assam are at stake now as these two ‘dangerous forces’ have joined hands together in the State even as she said that while the BJP toppled the Governments in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand, it could not do so in Assam.

Gandhi said this while addressing two public rallies at Amguri in Sivsagar district and Biswanath in Sonitpur districts on Wednesday.

“The Congress Governments in the State had worked very hard to bring peace and progress in last 15 years. However, the unity and integrity of the people of Assam are at stake now after two ‘dangerous forces’ have joined hands. While one of them is communal, the other one is very divisive,” she while reminding the people that Assam was known for insurgency and financial mess before the Congress Government came to power.

“If the same ‘dangerous forces’ come to power in Assam, the same situation will take place in Assam and it will be difficult to maintain the peace and development brought by the Congress Government during last 15 years,” she added.

“They dislodged the Government in Arunachal Pradesh and in Uttrakhand. However, they failed to do so in Assam. Now they have formed alliance with parties having opposite ideologies. They just want to grab power,” she added.

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the AICC leader said, “will you forget that the Prime Minister had refused to give funds to Assam when Assam was reeling under floods last yearIJ Will you forget so soon that the Prime Minister had slashed funds for implementation of development schemes in AssamIJ”

The AICC leader further said that the Prime Minister had taken away the Special Category status from Assam, which was enjoyed by the State since long. “Not only this. The UPA Government had also given autonomy to different communities of the State by forming autonomous councils. However, the Modi Government has been trying to end this autonomy after they came to power,” she added.

“The Prime Minister signed a framework agreement for the proposed Naga peace talks. However, he did not even consult the Chief Ministers of the northeastern States, who might get affected due to this agreement,” she said.

“The Prime Minister says that he used to sell Assam tea in the past. However, he is not aware about the pathetic conditions of the tea garden workers and Adivasis in Assam. The tea garden workers in Assam are wondering if achche din will come for themIJ” Gandhi said.

“Modiji promised to bring back black money from foreign banks. Although he could not do so, the Government has allowed the loan defaulters to escape the country with huge black money,” she said adding that the BJP is also trying to murder the democracy in India.
