Common man still waiting for achchhe din, says Cong

Amidst the political slugfest between the Congress and the BJP over Robert Vadra’s benami property in london, the Congress on Wednesday hit out further at the Modi Government and alleged that while the common man is still waiting for achchhe din, the Government has gone overboard to spend over `1,000 crore in a marketing campaign singing desh badal raha hai.

“We want to categorically state that — yes, India is changing. Desh mahangai se badal raha hai, naukriya na milne se badal raha hai, kam kamai se badal raha hai aur bachat na hone se badal raha hai. The Modi Government in its characteristic manner has provided a return gift to the people of India by increasing the petrol and diesel prices for the third consecutive time in the last 30 days,” said AICC spokesperson Sushmita Dev.

The party also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi claiming that ‘Make in India’ for him meant “cooking stories” against Opposition and levelling “baseless” allegations against the party to divert people’s attention from “his embarrassing economic failures”.

Dev also mentioned that ordinary Indians have also been burdened by a 15 per cent Service Tax which will make rail travel, mobile usage, insurance, health check-ups, eating out at restaurants and a slew of other basic services costlier for the ordinary Indian.

“Burning holes into the pockets of the ordinary citizens through cess, taxes, excise duty, service tax etc has become the principle aim of this Government. To profit from windfall gain of $73 billion (almost `5 lakh crore) in International Crude Oil Prices is the underlined agenda of this insensitive Government. Increasing diesel prices in this drought year and back stabbing farmer is the apathetic scheme of this Government,” Dev said.

In a strongly-worded commentary posted on its website, the AICC said, “If indeed, there is any proof of wrongdoing, then is the Modi Government so impotent that they cannot prosecute the guilty”, adding “there is a difference between a strong PM who lets his work do the talking, and a PM so busy talking that he forgets his work”.

“From National Herald to AgustaWestland and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter, the BJP has proven itself capable of making baseless accusations, but incapable of substantiating any of their claims,” the party said.
