In wake of Indian Army’s surgical strike across in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) area, the Indian Coast Guard has enhanced overall security for the shore establishments and fishermen along the Gujarat coast.

In an official statement on Friday ICG said that considering the incidents of recent past wherein the Indian forces reportedly foiled attempts of anti-national elements to infiltrate, by attacking their training camps across in PoK area, the overall security for the shore establishments and fishermen have been duly enhanced.

The coast of Gujarat and the Maritime Zones off the notional IMBl between India and Pakistan, being an area of sensitivity, has been the focus for the Maritime Security Agency since the attacks at Uri Base in J&K, said ICG official communiqué, adding that accordingly, the Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North West), at Gandhinagar had launched special operation in coordination with the stakeholders, including Marine Police and the State Administration since 26 September 2016.

“The stakeholders have been requested to advise fishermen to undertake group fishing and avoid fishing close to notional International Maritime Boundary line (IMBl), which is No Fishing Zone.  In addition, the presence of ICG units at sea and patrolling in sensitive areas by undertaking forward area deployment of assets, both ships and aircraft has been effected,” said ICG, Gandhinagar office.

ICG has also advised the fishing community in particular and all the stakeholders at large that they must maintain enhanced vigil and report any abnormal activity either at sea or in areas close to the coast, to the Indian Coast Guard promptly.  The sensitive sea areas along Gujarat coast have been duly sanitized by ICG and it is planned to sustain the enhanced surveillance till normalization of situation.
