Even as the Telangana Government extended a formal invitation to US President Barack Obama to visit Hyderabad, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has made a personal pitch for setting up US consulate in Vijayawada, the makeshift capital of his State.
Naidu, who had been instrumental in getting US consulate located in Hyderabad, has now stepped up his efforts to get a similar facility in his state citing a huge number of people from his state residing and working in the United States.
Naidu made the request when a US State Department panel met him at the State Secretariat. The delegation, led by Puneet Talwar, Assistant Secretary of State for Political and Military affairs, assured the CM that his request would be considered. “As most of the people flying from the State are from that region, it would be beneficial if you set up an office there”, he told the American officials.
