Tension prevailed in areas of Pilibhit and Deoria after members of the minority community clashed with local administration over taking out procession to celebrate ‘Barawafat’ (Eid-e-Milad) on Thursday. Heavy police force has been deployed in both districts to maintain peace.

As per reports, in Philibhit, Hasan Miya Kadri was trying to take out a procession to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad through a route prohibited in Kotwali police station area on Thursday morning when cops stopped him and tried to convince him to take the allotted route. As Kadri refused to relent and the number of processionists swelled, the cops first burst tear gas shells and later used force to disperse them. The anegry mob retaliated by engaging in heavy stone pelting injuring several cops including Additional SP, Sudhir Kumar Singh.

later additional force was requistioned from neighbouring police stations after which the situation could be brought under control. The situation was tense but under control when reports last came in.

Menahwile in Deoria, members of the minority community collected at Padri Bazar in Khukhuna market area to take out a procession to celebrate Barawafat on Thursday morning. Trouble started when nearly a hundred people from another community reached the spot and objected to the procession being taken out claiming that they did not have the requisite permission.

The administration intervened and tried to disperse the trouble makers after informing them that the procession was being taken out on the permitted route. This did not go down well with the miscreants who started pelting missiles injuring some cops and passersby.

later the police used force and chased away the trouble makers. The procession was later allowed to proceed through the same route under tight police vigil. Cases were registered against the miscreants at the local police station.
