Hyderabad: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde skipped questioning by the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday after seeking additional time to appear. The three had been summoned to the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden at noon. Police are expected to issue fresh summons.
The questioning is linked to cases registered following a CJP protest on October 13, when party members attempted to reach Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The protest took place after Jantar Mantar was denotified as a designated protest site. Police alleged that CJP members crossed barricades and entered the area through private premises. Two FIRs were registered in connection with the incident, including allegations of trespassing, disobedience of a public servant’s order and obstruction of police personnel.
Das and Ranka were sent to judicial custody on October 14 and were released on October 21 after furnishing personal and surety bonds and submitting written undertakings to maintain peace and abide by the law.
The cases were subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch. The latest summons mark another stage in the investigation into the protest, with police expected to seek the leaders’ statements after issuing fresh notices.
