In a first-of-its-kind incident in Bengal a senior judicial officer currently dealing with some high profile cases involving the Bengal ruling outfit was manhandled, his bodyguard and driver roughed up by allegedly drunken Trinamool Congress supporters even as the police looked the other way.
The incident took place on Sunday in front of the Trinamool Congress district headquarters at Siuri in Birbhum when Chief Judicial Magistrate Indranil Chatterjee was traveling in his car. The drunken goons blocked the passage of his car and demanded donation for a local Kali Puja. When his bodyguard and driver revealed his identity they manhandled.
"Neither the SP nor the ASP responded to his repeated calls" sources close to the judicial officer said. "When he went the police station the police refused to lodge his FIR" and a case was registered after much delay only when the media reached the scene.
The judge was currently handling the sensitive Parui case in which the Birbhum Trinamool president Anubrata Mandal's name is involved. He is also dealing with the Sattor case where a number of police men including two officers and some Trinamool goons were allegedly involved in abducting a BJP woman before subjecting her to severe torture.
