Chief Justice of India Hl Dattu on Monday questioned the silence of the Bar Council of India and Tamil Nadu lawyer associations over the recent violence sparked by lawyers of Madras HC which had made the judges including Chief Justice to live in a “fear psychosis”.
Troubled by the incidents of late in the HC where judges have demanded CISF protection after mob of lawyers stormed courtrooms with constant sloganeering and abuses being hurled at judges, the Bench headed by CJI wondered what had become of the institution of Madras HC, which once set high standards of advocacy. Wondering why there has been no admonishment from either the Bar Council of India or State Bar Council, the Bench headed by CJI said, “Unruly mobs of lawyers get into the Court along with their wives and children. What is the lawyers’ associations and BCI doing about itIJ”
