Sahara chief Subrata Roy was on Friday denied interim bail by the Chief Justice of India after an urgent mention in this regard was made by Roy’s lawyers at CJI's residence.

Roy in his bail petition stated that his aunt, aged 90, who stayed with his family in lucknow expired on Thursday. As he wished to attend her final rites, Roy made a hurried request to CJI Hl Dattu to allow him 15-day bail to participate in the cremation function. Roy was lodged in Tihar Jail on March 4 for not complying with Supreme Court's orders asking him to refund SEBI the amount raised by two Sahara firms under a debenture scheme.

It is understood that the CJI refused to entertain the petition as he found no ground of urgency. Roy's lawyers were asked to appear before the regular court after it reopens on Tuesday.

The request for bail has come after the expiry of the 15-day period granted to Roy to complete his negotiations over sale of his overseas hotels in order to earn him Rs 10000 crore towards his release from jail. On Wednesday, Roy was shifted from the jail conference hall to his cell. The hall allowed him an air conditioned facility to negotiate sale of his luxury hotels with foreign buyers.

Roy and two of his group directors were allowed to use the conference room for 10 days from August 5, within a given time lot of 6 am to 8 pm. The court had last extended Roy's stay at the conference room on September 8 for a period of 15 days.

Roy was allowed services like Wi-Fi and video-conferencing along with two laptops, two desktops, landline phones with STD/ISD facilities and a mobile phone along with two secretarial staff and a technical assist.
