Chief Justice of India TS Thakur has asked the Supreme Court Registry to allocate space for a cycle stand in the court premises after it received a request from senior advocate and Rajya Sabha member KTS Tulsi, who has decided to cycle down to court. Tulsi, who had cycled to Parliament, had written a letter to CJI recently.
The revelation came from the CJI during the hearing of the PIl on Delhi air pollution when court was considering the options available to lawyers who will be required to follow the odd-even rule to ply private cars from January 1-15.
The court said, “Mr Tulsi has asked for a cycle stand and we have asked the Registry to arrange it.” The court reiterated that if the Delhi Government is confident of implementing the rule, judges will not stand in the way. Supreme Court bar president Dushyant Dave sought exemption for lawyers but the Bench said it was on a trial basis and should be seen whether the Government can pull it off smoothly without creating a chaos.
