Inspiring from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, NGO Parmarthi has taken initiatives to keep Dwarka sub-city clean and green. Ravi Tandon, Mission leader said that he started this NGO in January 2018, which works for environmental improvement of Dwarka in New Delhi and has been highly successful in transforming the region.
Tondon said, "Dwarka is Asia’s biggest sub city with a population of about a million people. This well planned sub city has wide roads with pavements and neatly divided residential and commercial areas," "The responsibility of cleaning and maintaining the locality is of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) which deploys its personnel for this job."
"However that clearly was insufficient, as Dwarka, inspite of its planned layout and geometric design, looked littered and unkempt. It is then that we started our campaign to bring cleanliness to Dwarka in a mission mode. And our USP is ours is not a one time job, once we adopt an area we continue to clean it regularly forever. That has made our job extremely challenging," he added.
Lauding the efforts of the NGO, Dwarka residents said that Parmarthi, which presently gives employment to more than a hundred people and maintains tens of kilometres of Dwarka road every week, functions in a corporate style with a distinct stratified chain of command.
"It cleans the pavements of all the dirt, clears adjoining walls of the posters and handbills, paints the sidewalks and also motivates children and elders to join their painting campaigns to do up the area," said Pronita Jaiswal, a resident. "Dwarkaites in Delhi see them all around and they are flooded with requests from various residential societies, schools and hospitals. After all who doesn’t want clean surroundings?"
