Kolkata’s political and civil society have finally risen up like they had during Nandigram days to protest against what they say a “venomous regime” led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
A hodge-podge of politicians from various outfits and intellectuals subscribing to different ideologies would walk in a rally on Friday, former Kolkata Mayor and senior advocate Bikash Bhattacharya said. Bhattacharya is a CPI(M) leader.
Among those who are likely to walk in the procession are retired Justice Asok Ganguli, writer Bolan Ganguli, dramatist Chandan Sen, renowned advocate Congress leader Arunabha Ghosh and a galaxy of other intellectuals, sources said adding actor-turned BJP leader Rupa Ganguli had also been invited to walk in the protest march.
Many of those who would walk on Friday had walked in rally against the left Front in 2009, sources said.
Among others who have expressed their solidarity with the protest walkers are revered veteran writer Sankha Ghosh who was a prime face among the protesters during the Singur-Nandigram movements, director Mrinal Sen, former CPI(M) leader Somnath Chatterjee et al.
