The face-off between BJP's three MCDs and the Kejriwal Government is likely to bring civic services to a grinding halt. The employee unions from all departments of the three corporations decided to go on a massive strike on Wednesday by protesting outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence and have given an ultimatum of two weeks following which the employees would cease their services. The cash-strapped agencies, however, have said that without getting special package, it is not possible to ensure payment of the employees. Around 1.5 lakh employees are yet to receive three months’ salaries and other benefits as of now.
Earlier, the national Capital has witnessed halting of civic services by sanitation staff over non-payment of salaries but this will be the first occasion when other departments have decided to participate. “We are quite sick of this situation where there is no surety of getting monthly salary. They had promised things would get better by the end of the year but nothing has changed,” said a doctor at a civic hospital, requesting anonymity.
