CID seizes huge amount of gold from ex-IPS officer

The Bengal Criminal Investigation Department on Monday raided and recovered “huge amount” of gold jewellery from three bank lockers owned by former IPS officer and former Midnapore SP Bharati Ghosh who was currently out of State allegedly to evade arrest.

The CID seized hundreds of grams of gold some with hallmark sources said even as the former senior cop told from an undisclosed location that she had already disclosed her assets to the Government before taking up her job in 1995.

“Being someone from a zamindar family I had inherited a large number of jewelleries which has already been reported to the Government,” she said.

Ghosh, once a fair-haired girl of Banerjee — even praising the Chief Minister as the “mother of Jangalmahal,” — allegedly demolished the Opposition parties in a systematic manner to help Trinamool Congress win elections after elections. However she recently earned her wrath after BJP did well from Sabang Assembly constituency where the Trinamool shed large number of votes to the saffron outfit. Ghosh who was summarily transferred to an inconsequential post subsequently resigned to witness series of criminal cases being lodged against her and raids conducted on her properties.

The BJP says that the reason behind the raids was the Trinamool Government’s desperation to recover the files related to Kishenji’s alleged “murder” in captivity. Ghosh was the SP when the top Maoist leader was eliminated.
