In an apparent bid to mount counter-pressure on the Narendra Modi Government after the CBI recently arrested Trinamool Congress MPs Sudip Bandopadhyay and Tapas Paul for their alleged role in Rose Valley chit fund scam Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to launch a movement demanding return of the investors’ money from the properties forfeited by the Enforcement Directorate.
Banerjee has asked her party leaders to organise rallies demanding return of depositors’ money saying the “ED has seized properties worth several hundred crores. So why don’t they start returning the money to the depositors.”
She said, “We took steps to return the money when things were in our control. But there is a legal hassle now and we cannot return the money. However the ED can do it as they have croaked huge amount of property belonging to the chit fund companies. My question is why it is not doing so.”
Banerjee’s direction to her party leaders came a day after the ED attached property worth over Rs 60 crore belonging to the former Union Minister and Congress leader Matang Singh.
