Repeated incursions by Chinese army into the Indian territory will figure prominently during the two-day talks between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of two countries here starting April 22. They will also explore the possibility of hastening the process of setting up a hotline between the two senior officers to avoid face-offs between the two armies near line of Actual Control (lAC)
Chinese delegation headed by People’s liberation Army’s Deputy Chief of General Staff (Operations) lt General Qi Jianguo will hold talks with his Indian counterpart lt General PR Kumar on April 22. The visiting delegation will call on Defence Minister AK Antony the next day and meet officers of Defence Ministry and three Services.
This high-profile meeting comes after two countries signed the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA) last year to maintain peace at lAC and avoid face-offs like the one in ladakh. The Chinese delegation will comprise seven senior officers, officials said here on Friday.
Under the BDCA agreement signed in October last year during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Beijing visit, the two sides agreed not to use force in case of face-offs along the lAC and the Defence Ministry says that it has helped it in immediate resolution of issues there.
The issue of incursions by the Chinese troops had taken a serious turn when they entered the Daulat Beg Oldie area in ladakh in April last year and left only after a three-week stand off.
