Chief Minister files papers from Rajkot West

On Monday Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani filed his nomination from Rajkot West seat at 12.39 noon which is considered as ‘Vijay Muhurat’. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and his supporters were  present during the filing process at Rajkot Collector’s office. Rupani made it a point to visit religious places and saints before filing the papers.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also addressed his supporters and expressed his party’s victory with thumping majority. He said that BJP would win at least 150 out of 182 seats. Development politics of BJP has made the opposition party unstable and because of it the Congress leaders were are trying to make fun of BJP’s development poll plank.

It is worth mentioning that Rupani is representing the same constituency from where Prime Minister contested his first election and elected as Gujarat MlA in 2002. Traditionally the seat is considered as the most secured constituency for the ruling BJP. Even Rupani contested his first assembly poll from the constituency and went on to become Gujarat Chief Minister.

Soon after Rupani’s nomination process completed, Congress candidate Indranil Rajguru filed his nomination from the same constituency. In the 2012 Assembly polls, Rajguru elected from Rajkot East seat but this time he changed constituency. In fact he expressed desire to contest election against Gujarat CM before his party leaders around a year ahead of 2017 assembly polls. While filing nomination Rupani declared his properties and cash worth around Rs 1.45 crore excluding 600 grams gold. In the case of Rajguru, he declared his wealth to the tune of Rs 141 crore.
