Chennai School of Ship Management de-recognised

Chennai School of Ship Management, a maritime training institute based in East Coast Road, Muttukadu in Chennai has been de-recognised by the Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, with immediate effect, according to a release issued by the Mercantile Marine Department, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India.

The Ministry has cautioned aspiring students who wish to join the Merchant Navy not to take any admissions at Chennai School of Ship Management, Chennai.  “Any individual who takes admission in any of the courses offered by CSSM may do so at his/her own risk as the courses and the certificate issued by Chennai School of Ship Management, Chennai shall not be valid for any jobs/career in Merchant Navy,” said the release

The Ministry has also permanently withdrawn all approvals to Elementary First Aid, Marine Engineers-Alternate Training Scheme, Medical First Aid, Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities courses in the institute.

But the institute website (www.cssmmarine.com) is silent about the government order and proclaims itself as a marine engineering college. The institute is continuing with the admission process for the 2017 to 2018 academic year in spite of the order of de-recognition issued by the director general of shipping.

No reason has been furnished by the ministry for the de-recognition of the institute.
