Kaskar and six other arrested accused, including absconding accused Shakeel, have been charged under sections 384, 386, 387 ( sections relation to extortion), 34 (common intent) and 120-B (conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code and sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2), 3(4) and 3(5) of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
“We have filed the charge-sheet against Kaskar and six others based on the investigations conducted in an extortion complaint registered against them by local builder Suresh Jain with the Kasarvadvli police station,” Police Inspector Rajkumar Kothmire said.
Kaskar and two of his accomplices Mumtaz Shaikh and Israr Ali Jamil Sayyed were arrested on September 18 from the Nagpada residence of Dawood’s sister late Haseena Parkar in south Mumbai.
Subsequently, the investigators arrested Gangar in the case and named three – including Shakeel – as absconding accused in the case.
The case against Kaskar and six others is that they had extorted four flats and Rs 30 lakh cash from Jain in 2016.
According to the charge-sheet, Kaskar made frequent visits to Thane in 2016 and 2017, his accomplices Sayyed and Shaikh helped him take forcible possession of the four flats in a posh housing complex on Ghodbunder Road.
The evidences that the investigators have gathered against Kaskar and other accused include details of phone call records of the accused duo, Sayyed and Shaikh, in which they had used Kaskar’s name to threaten builders and developers with dire consequences
Incidentally, Sayyed was found occupying one of the four flats when the Anti-Extortion Cell sleuths of the Thane police raided the premises in September after the builder lodged his complaint with the Kasarvadavli police station.
