A chargesheet has been filed against 13, including a Congress MlA, for burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was Gujarat Chief Minister.

The effigy of Modi was burned in Mahesana town in North Gujarat on October 6, 2011 during a rally of Congress party to oppose ‘corruption’ in BJP-ruled Gujarat Government. On that day, Congress workers shouted slogans against the State Government and at the same time burnt effigy of the then Gujarat Chief Minister.

In an immediate action, the police filed a case under section 188 and 144 of IPC against 13 people including Baldevji Thakor, a Congress MlA from Kalol constituency and arrested all of them. However, they were released on bail after few hours.

During the hearing of this case in Mahesana Judicial Court, all the 13 accused remained present and when court asked them to accept the crime, they all denied and finally a charge sheet was filed against them.
