Change in weather: Alert for Char Dham Yatra pilgrims

Published on:

With sudden change in the atmospheric conditions due to rainfall in many parts of the State particularly in hilly regions, the State meteorological department has advised the tourists and pilgrims of the Char Dham Yatra to be alert during this period as the same atmospheric conditions are likely to continue till Monday.

“We advised the visitors and pilgrims of the Char Dham Yatra to remain alert following these developments in the weather conditions,” said Anand Sharma, Director, the State meteorological department, Dehradun, while talking to The Pioneer.

However, with atmospheric temperature remaining low of late, providing much-needed relief from scorching heat of the summer, the tourists who have been thronging different tourist destinations here this weekend, may extend their hill sojourn for a few more days.

In the meanwhile, incessant rain showers in mountainous regions and cold waves breezing through the hitherto warm terai-bhawar regions of Uttarakhand since wee hours on Sunday, have provided much needed relief to the citizens from the scorching heat of the summer.

The interesting fact is that though rainfall is occurring mostly in mountainous region as has been reported, its effect has definitely had an impact on the atmosphere of the plains of the hill state  as it has substantially brought  down the atmospheric temperature.

But the rainfall is presently restricted more or less to hilly regions. Whereas hailstorm accompanied by stormy winds occurred in Nainital’s Kathgodam area (a hilly region) on Saturday, citizens of Haldwani faced as usual a Sunny day on that day.

Though it did not rain here in Haldwani even on Sunday , stormy waves continued to flow throughout the day  bringing  the atmospheric

temperature that was hovering around 40 degree Celsius in terai region, substantially down.

These changes in the weather conditions have however turned out to be much needed relief to the local citizens apart from the visitors. Though locals of the terai-bhawar region are accustomed to facing tougher Sunny days of summer,  stormy winds accompanied by cold waves emanating from the incessant rain in hilly areas came as big relief to them. According to the state meteorological department, Dehradun, the same weather conditions are likely to continue till Monday.

However, on asking about the reasons that led to sudden change in atmospheric conditions, Sharma maintained that there is nothing unusual. The fact is that since no rainfall occurred this month so far, therefore, these changes are very normal, he added.
