Even as her call for a third alternative tended to fade, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee got a shot in the arm with former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday coming to meet her to discuss the possibility of a federal front.
Banerjee who met the Telegu Desam Party chief for more than half-an-hour, however, did not comment on the meeting. Naidu on his part said the two leaders had a fruitful talk. He also said that the “discussions are on with different political parties on the formation of the federal front.” He came to see the Bengal Chief Minister at her swanky 13th floor office in the new secretariat at Nabanna.
Though Naidu would not dwell on the issue further he answered questions from the media saying there were “positive” vibes coming from other parties and hoped that the federal front could get the majority. The Bengal Chief Minister had earlier given call for a federal front of non-BJP, non-Congress parties.
Asked to comment on which parties were in touch with Naidu, the former Andhra Chief Minister who opposed the idea of Telengana said things would be revealed at the right time. Banerjee had earlier backed Naidu’s stance on Telangana and opposed the idea of bifurcating States any further.
