The Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is displeased with the Centre’s decision to withdraw paramilitary from the Maoist-infested Jangalmahal area of the State, sources said adding the Government is planning to write strongly to New Delhi expressing its displeasure.
Accusing the Centre of “playing politics with fire” a State Minister said the BJP Government is trying to create a problem in the area by “withdrawing the central forces and then push in the Maoists” from the neighbouring Jharkhand currently ruled by the saffron outfit.
Of late the BJP has marginally improved its position in the Jangalmahal districts of Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram by displacing the left Front from the second place. This became evident from the recently concluded panchayat elections.
“As they are unable to take on the might of the Trinamool they are trying to create mischief by getting its leaders killed by the Maoists who will be pushed in from Jharkhand after the Central forces are gone,” the leader said adding the State would never let the central forces leave Bengal.
The Jangalmahal districts were infested with Maoists and had seen scores of murders during the left regime. Things looked up after Banerjee came to power in 2011 and took up a host of developmental programmes through Kanyashree, Rupashree, construction of roads, schools, hospitals, colleges and taking up other schemes.
Currently there are 35 companies of central forces in the area. Out of this 29 companies are from CRPF and 6 companies are from the Naga Rifles.
