The Centre may call a special session of Parliament later this month to pursue legislation linking women’s reservation with delimitation., NDTV and India Today reported, citing government sources. No official notification fixing the dates was available in the reports reviewed, so the proposal remains unconfirmed.

The reported timing is linked to the BRICS Parliamentary Forum scheduled for October 26 and 27. The package is expected to include the Delimitation Bill and measures to operationalise the 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. India Today reported that the Monsoon Session had not been prorogued.

The political dispute is over whether women’s reservation should be tied to a population-based delimitation exercise. Southern states and Opposition parties have raised concerns about federal balance and delay; the government says the reforms could enable the quota before the 2029 election. Cabinet approval, final Bill text, party commitments and a presidential summons must be checked.
