Centre launches Rs1,000 minimum pension scheme

Marking September 30 as Pensioner's felicitation day in the Capital, the Union Government on Tuesday announced the launch of a guaranteed minimum pension of Rs1,000 per month under 1995 Employees Pension Scheme. The move is likely to benefit nearly 32 lakh employees.

“The BJP Government is trying its level best to deliver the best. We as Government employees need to devise more schemes for public welfare,” said Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, who was the Chief Guest of the occasion.

The demand for increase in the pension amount was pending for a long time now, and therefore the minimum pension of Rs1,000 per month has come as a dream come true. Currently, a large number of pensioners are getting merely paltry amounts as pension under the scheme. In fact almost two-third of the pensioners are receiving pension of less than Rs1,000.
