Centre files caveat in SC over Agnipath scheme after PIL

Published on:

With PILs started coming, the Centre on Tuesday filed a caveat in the Supreme Court and urged that it be heard before the court passes any order on petitions against the Agnipath scheme.

Caveat is a petition asking courts that actions may not be taken without hearing the opposite side. Already more than five petitioners claimed filing PILs to stop the Agnipath scheme.

Meanwhile another PIL was also filed in the apex court for an SIT probe on the nationwide violence against the scheme. This petition was mentioned on Tuesday and the vacation bench agreed to list.

Already more than five PILs are filed against Agnipath scheme, terming it as half baked one, seeking cancellation. The pleas sought to quash the June 14 notification/press note claiming it to be illegal and unconstitutional.

With Centre filing caveat, Government will get ample chance to explain and opportunity to prevent stay order without hearing.
