'Centre cheating our State'

Congress Party and the Communist Party of India have lashed out at the Narendra Modi Government for its refusal to give Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. The Opposition parties charged the Centre with cheating the people of the State by not fulfilling the promise made in the last elections.

Andhra Pradesh State Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy said that the refusal to grant SCS was cheating 5 crore people of the State. “By just announcing a package the Center was trying to wash its hands off the responsibility of helping Andhra Pradesh”, he said.

He announced protest demonstration in all the districts from tomorrow against the half baked package.

CPI National Executive member K Narayana said that after making false and misleading promises for the last two and a half years the BJP and TDP Governments at the Center and the State have now cheated the people. He announced full support of his party to the strike called on September 10.

“At least now the Telugu Desam should come out of the Government at the Center and start a mass movement in the state to secure the special category status”, he said.

He criticized D Purandeswari for opposing the Special Category Status after joining the BJP.
