A group of public health and nutrition advocates, under the umbrella of Nutrition Advocacy in Public Interest — India, (NAPi), has urged celebrities, including those from cricket and cine world, like Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, actors, including Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, among others to stop endorsing high salt, sugar and ultra processed foods, the main cause for rising non-communicable diseases.
“We hope you are aware of the challenge of undernutrition and life style diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cancers that India is facing currently. Fast foods having high salt, sugar contents are one of the many reasons for this,” said the advocacy group in a letter to the celebrities which also included actors such as Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh.
