An internationally acclaimed college from South Kolkata on Thursday got embroiled in the chit fund scam following reports that it admitted son of jailed chit fund kingpin Gautam Kundu following a “reference letter” from senior Trinamool MP Sudip Bandopadhaya and accepting a fat donation of Rs 71 lakh, sources said.
The agency was investigating “whether it was a simple case of capitation or the money was siphoned off,” sources said. Father Felix Raj the principal of the reputed St Xavier’s college who was questioned by the Agency denied that donation had anything to do with the student’s admission into the college.
The officials have asked for the relevant documents of the admission process and the recommendation letter from the MP who was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged association with Rose Valley chit fund scam. The CBI had filed its charge sheet in the Rose Valley Group chit fund scam naming Kundu and three others in a special court in Bhubaneswar on January 7, 2016.
The CBI was also set to call a top actress from Tollywood whose husband had business in Singapore. As per the sources the actress who is also closely related to Kundu had helped him send Rs 300 crore through hawala route to Singapore.
Though the CBI refused to divulge the name of the famous actor sources said her husband would be summoned in a couple of days’ time.
