CBI to move against Tytler after studying court order?

Published on:

Reacting to a court rejecting CBI’s clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case, the investigating agency on Wednesday said it will study the court order and decide the future course of action.

On the back foot over the court’s direction to re-open the case against Tytler, the sources claimed that they had sent a team to record the statement of the witness based in the US but his statements did not have any evidential value. The persons named by the US-based witness were not found to be genuine, the sources claimed.

The agency will reopen the probe once the court order is studied in detail.

The CBI had filed closure report in the case saying the probe has made it clear that Tytler was not present on November 1, 1984 at Gurudwara Pulbangash in North Delhi where three people were killed during the riots.

Additional Sessions Judge Anuradha Shukla Bhardwaj on Wednesday set aside the order of a magisterial court which accepted CBI’s closure report.
