Stock broker Deepak Pareek sent to jail

The special CBI court on Sunday rejected bail petition of land broker Dharmendra Bothra, who was arrested earlier on the day for his alleged link with AT Group and allowed the CBI to take him on four-day remand.

Though the CBI had requested for five-day remand, the Court granted it only for four days. The court also rejected bail petition of Mumbai-based stock broker Deepak Chandratan Pareek and sent him to judicial custody till September 30. Pareek was arrested on Sunday by the CBI after a marathon grilling on Saturday night for his alleged link with AT Group chief Pradip Sethy.

Sources said the CBI succeeded to get vital information from Pareek while interrogating him regarding the AT Group link. Pareek had informed the CBI that

his company Yash Trading was taken over by the AT Group to invest money in the stock market. Pareek had allegedly obtained licence from SEBI and MCX for the AT Group and had taken Rs 1.10 crore from Sethy.

During interrogation, Pareek failed to submit valid documents regarding the money he had received from Sethy. CBI sources said the chit fund company had not taken permission from the SEBI before entering into stock broking.

Pareek used to invest AT Group’s money in the stock market. Several influential persons in the State who had links with AT Group are said to have made investments in the stock market through Pareek, sources added.

While quizzing Bothra, the CBI got a name which is similar with a former Minister’s name. Bothra had informed the probing agency that the person had sold a plot to the AT Group. Notably, the CBI has already arrested eight persons, three media firm owners and five chit fund operators, for their involvement in chit fund scam.
