The Central Bureau of Investigation seemed to have begun its interrogation procedure in the Narada payoff case by issuing summons to Trinamool Congress MlA and Deputy Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation Iqbal Ahmed.

Ahmed, the younger brother of Sultan Ahmed the former Union Minister and Trinamool Congress  MP has been asked to report at the CBI office on Saturday.

Though the CBI had earlier questioned Mathew Samuels, the CEO of Narada News, the portal that had done the sting operation on more than a dozen TMC Ministers and MlAs and an IPS officer, Ahmed is the first TMC leader to be summoned by the Agency.

“We have issued a summon to Iqbal Ahmed as he has been seen in a number of clippings of the Narada video tapes,” CBI officials said.

The Narada video tapes went on air in 2016 and related to a sting operation conducted in 2014 when a journalist posing as a prospective investor met and gave cash to a number of TMC leaders Sultan Ahmed,

Aparupa Poddar, Prasun Banerjee, Mukul Roy, Saugato Roy, all MPs and Suvendu Adhikary, Subroto Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim, Sovan Chatterjee, Madan Mitra, all Ministers and IPS officer SMH Mirza apart from Iqbal Ahmed allegedly for getting some works done.
