CBI seeks arrest of Maxis group promoters

Two years after filing its chargesheet in Aircel-Maxis scam, the CBI on Monday sought issue of arrest warrants against Malaysian company Maxis Group promoters T Ananda Krishnan, Ralph Marshal and their companies Maxis Communications Berhad and Astro All Asia Networks.

In its application in 2G Special Court, the CBI counsels said the companies as well as their owners are no co-operating and are not accepting the summons sent by the Court.

CBI counsels told Judge OP Saini that for the past two years, though the summons were served to the accused including two companies, there were all attempts from the Malaysian side to evade the Indian court's process. The Judge has posted the matter for August 27.

The CBI had in August 2014 filed the chargesheet in the Aircel-Maxis scam, accusing former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his family members along with promoters of Maxis. Maran family's firm Sun TV and Maxis group companies were also charged as accused.

The chargesheet also detailed the illegalities committed by former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in approving the dubious deal.

The CBI in September 2014, told the 2G Court that they would soon file

supplementary chargesheet on the FIPB violations on the scam, approved by Chidambaram.
