The CBI on Saturday registered a Preliminary Enquiry to look into the deaths of nine people alleged to be linked to the “dubious” examinations conducted by Vyapam over the last few years and in which no action was initiated by the local police.
“The Preliminary Enquiry has been registered to examine whether these deaths were fallout of the Vyapam scam,” a CBI official said.
The official said the nine deceased include Anand Singh, Ashutosh Tiwari, Gyan Singh, Anant Ram Tagore, Ravendra Prakash Singh, Prem lata Pandey, Vikas Pandey, Rajendra Arya and Sanjay Kumar Yadav. Their deaths were reportedly connected to the scam.
The agency had on Friday registered a PE to probe the death of a Hindi news channel journalist Akshay Singh who had mysteriously died on July 5, a day after interviewing the parent of Namrata Damor, a medical student alleged to be a beneficiary of the scandalous examination conducted by Vyapam.
The CBI had also registered five regular cases on Friday including the one to probe the suspicious death of19-year old MBBS student Namrata Damor in 2012.
The Madhya Pradesh police had maintained that 19-year-old Damor, who was found dead on January 7, was suffering from depression and had committed suicide but two sets of doctors gave conflicting opinions about her death raising suspicion.
The girl, who allegedly took the illegal route to gain admission in Gwalior Medical College, is believed to have been a witness to happenings in the case. The CBI has now registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code to probe her death.
Other cases registered so far in connection with the scam include alleged illegalities in the PMT-2010 and alleged irregularities during an examination conducted by Vyapam in 2010.
The CBI has so far registered 10 regular cases and two Preliminary Enquiries to probe allegations of massive rigging in the examinations conducted by Vyapam for recruitment in Government jobs.
